According to the Consulate General of India in New York, the proclamation highlighted the Indian-American community’s contributions to New Jersey in areas including education, healthcare, research, technology, business, public service and community leadership.New York Governor Kathy Hochul also proclaimed August 15 as India Independence Day across the state.The Consulate said New York’s proclamation recognised the Indian-American community’s contribution to the state’s cultural, economic and civic life, while also highlighting the enduring ties between India and the US.The Consulate thanked Hochul for the recognition, saying the proclamation celebrated India’s journey of independence and the democratic values shared by the two countries.<\/p>\n India’s Independence Day is marked across the US each year through flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, cultural programmes and community events.Indian diplomatic missions, including the Embassy of India in Washington and Indian consulates, hold special programmes on August 15.
