Indian musician Pritesh Walia detained by ICE, claim friends and family.

Pritesh Walia, an Indian musician, was detained by ICE on August 2, a statement issued from his Instagram account claimed. “This is Liza. I’m currently managing Pritesh’s account on his behalf. On Sunday night, August 2, after we returned to Los Angeles, Pritesh was unexpectedly detained by ICE and taken into custodt. He had since been transferred to the Adelanto ICE Processing Center,” the message read.“His personal belongings, including his phone, were taken upon detention, and he currently has no access to them,” the message added. There has been no official update about the arrest from ICE so far.“His family and I are actively working with attorneys to address the situation and secure his release as soon as possible,” the statement read.

Who is musician Pritesh Walia?

Walia was born in India and came to the US to pursue higher education. He received his Associate’s degree from the Musician’s Institute in LA, a Bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music, and a Master’s degree from the New England Conservatory. In 2023, Walia faced a health crisis and was diagnosed with Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness, Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH), and chronic vestibular migraines. His friends at that time set up a fundraiser for his treatment as the health issues stopped him from performing. In that fundraiser, it was mentioned that Walia received an artist visa to continue staying in the US. Artist visa is the colloquial term for an O1B visa in the US. The initial validity period for the visa is three years. As neither Walia nor ICE issued any statement on the reason why Walia was detained, the news spread speculation on Reddit that his artist visa had probably lapsed. “Hi, this is his cousin from Mumbai, On behalf of Pritesh’s family, we would like to immensely thank all of his wellwishers and supporters. We are extremely grateful and request you to keep him in your prayers, so that he finds all the strength he needs, to fight this most uncalled for crisis. Do pray for his safety and release at the earliest,” one Redditor claiming to be Walia’s cousin posted. The incident comes as ICE surveillance and arrests at airports increased and immigration experts have been advising visa holders to reconsider traveling, even domestic traveling.

Sarfaraz Khan’s return: A 17kg weight loss, relentless fight and a Test recall | Cricket News

Sarfaraz Khan's return: A 17kg weight loss, relentless fight and a Test recall

In cricket, as in life, fortunes can change in a short time. Over the years, Sarfaraz Khan has subtly expressed his frustration at being sidelined from the Indian Test team despite consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy. On Friday, the Mumbai batter posted a photo on Instagram from the 2019 Telugu film ‘Jersey’ with a caption that read: “I may not fit in, but I’ll fight with everything I’ve got.”Just 48 hours later, the 28-yearold was rewarded for his seemingly endless ‘fight’ when he replaced the injured Sai Sudharsan in the Indian squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka. After finally receiving the news he had been waiting for, Sarfaraz shared his first post on social media, posting a couple of pictures in the Team India travelling jersey. On Monday, Sarfaraz was the cynosure of all eyes as he practiced with the Indian team in Colombo. On eve of Sarfaraz’s departure, Sarfaraz’s father-cum-coach Naushad Khan, who has a penchant for shayari when he’s not coaching his kids, posted a reel where he tells his cricketer sons Sarfaraz and Musheer Khan that luck favours hardwork. The Test recall, which has come after 19 months in the wilderness for Sarfaraz, marks a heartening comeback of a man who was last year ignored by the national selectors even for the India A home series against South Africa A ahead of the Proteas’ tour of India, based on the logic that they had “seen enough” of him and wanted to try the others too. With the three-day warm-up game in Colombo having concluded on Sunday, Sarfaraz will look to make the most of the practice sessions to prepare for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

Shedding weight

One of the criticisms against Sarfaraz was that he was overweight. Many deemed him unfit to play toplevel cricket, even though legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar countered that by saying that a player’s performance and cricket fitness are more important than their body weight. In a heartening development that has certainly helped him in his cricket career, Sarfaraz, before being picked for the India A squad for the upcoming tour of England last year, eventually decided to improve on this aspect too.

Sarfaraz Khan

After remaining unsold in the IPL for two years before the Chennai Super Kings bought him in IPL-2026 auction, he worked hard on improving his fitness in recent times, and shedding excess weight. The Mumbaikar has lost a staggering 17 kgs in a year’s time and now bears a much trimmer, fitter look. In fact, since 2025, Sarfaraz’s whole family has been on a weightlosing spree which has produced significant results. Advised to lose weight on an urgent basis to avoid a knee replacement surgery, Naushad Khan lost 12 kgs in a month last year.“Our whole family is focused on a weight-losing mission. Sarfaraz has lost nine kilograms too in six weeks, which isn’t easy, and he’s raring to lose more weight. Both Sarfaraz and I have been slogging in the gym for at least an hour for six days a week. I go for a walk, while he jogs for almost an hour, and then there’s a 30-minute swimming session. Even my younger son Moin (Khan) has lost a lot of weight,” Naushad had told TOI.Much of this weight loss mission for the Khans also involved a strict diet. “Sarfaraz and I have stopped eating atta (flour) and rice at home completely. Our diet is now strict but interesting — we eat sauteed vegetable with boiled chicken, boiled eggs, and drink green tea and black coffee. We are using little (olive) oil in our food,” Naushad had revealed.

It meant that Sarfaaz was no longer feasting on his favourite non-vegetarian dishes — particularly biryani — but it’s a sacrifice that the middleorder batter consciously made to improve his fitness drastically.

Attendance shortfall: Law students get one-time Bombay HC nod to take exams for academic year 2025-26 | India News

Attendance shortfall: Law students get one-time Bombay HC nod to take exams for academic year 2025-26
In a huge relief to students of ILS Law college in Pune barred from appearing for their semester-end law exams for attendance shortfall, Bombay high court on Monday permitted them to appear for the exams.

MUMBAI: In a huge relief to students of ILS Law college in Pune barred from appearing for their semester-end law exams in the academic year 2025-26 for attendance shortfall, Bombay high court on Monday permitted them to appear for the exams as a “strictly one-time measure’’. Justices Riyaz Chagla and Farhan Dubash relied on a recent July 21 Supreme Court order that permitted students as a one-time relief to appear for their examinations in the academic year 20-26.The HC clarified that its relief would apply to all similarly barred students of the college who had not filed petitions, as it said the SC order had carved out similar placed students as a “protected class’’. But the bench clarified its order was “confined to the academic session 2025–26’’.The HC said its order cannot be construed as diluting the attendance rules for any other academic session. “Students pursuing legal education shall continue to remain bound by the attendance requirements otherwise applicable to them,’’ the bench said. The HC order came in a batch of petitions filed by 41 students pursuing different years of the 3-year and 5-year law courses conducted at ILS, Pune affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University. The University said their attendance was tween 46 to 54 % while minimum attendance was 75 %.The petitions said an earlier 70 % rule with 20 % additional waiver rule ought to apply to them and also cited a November 3 2025 Delhi HC order to argue their case. The Delhi HC High Court directed that no student enrolled in a recognised law college in India should be detained or prevented from appearing for examinations or from pursuing academic progression solely on account of shortage of attendance. The SC then stayed the Delhi HC order, prospectively in May. But in July protected students across colleges against a lost academic year of 2025-26, with a one-time reprieve to appear for the final exam in that academic year when the Delhi HC order was passed. The SC order does not prescribe any minimum attendance for the protected class of last academic year student, HC noted. On Monday, disposing of the batch of petitions the Bombay HC clarified that the Delhi HC order did not bind it, but the July SC order did.Six different HCs had differed with Delhi HC.The Pune University and the law college argued that the SC order would apply only to final examination students of the 3 year and 5 year LLB courses. But disagreeing, the HC reasoned and the SC meant “concluding exam for that academic session’’ hence the petitioners who were students of first, second, third- or fourth-year stand included.
